The humor is very Pinoy. The penchant for using character names as inside jokes was used by Tito Vic Joey since the 1970s. Named the Escalera Brothers from Iskul Bukol. The villain’s name here is Deng Tsin Quin played by Bun-hay Mean. A play on the ABBA hit.

One character doesn’t only have a funny name but actually looks and sounds like Panchito (also from a Joey Delon movie) as Liburatche. Biopix (played by Jose Garcia) is Julius Caesar’s right hand gay… er guy rather. Biopix is in the sycophant sidekick vein as Liburatche in SUPER MOUSE AND THE ROBORATS (1989).

Fairly obvious, Lead actor and director Canet cast French Vietnamese actors as Chinese. But how could I complain when Alain Boublil, cast Filipinos as Vietnamese in the premiere production of Miss Saigon? It may be because of their fluence in French, the way English speaking Pinoys were cast in the 1989 West End hit.
