Marian’s Cuts & Bruises

Marian Rivera assured audiences in her acceptance speech that Director Kip Oebanda, crew and production made sure she was safe. In spite of this, the role had its physical challenges.

For most of the film she was handcuffed to a heavy, metal, ballot box. And involved scenes where she had to carry it under a tree and muddy areas. Like an embankment, beneath tree roots where she had to hide from would be captors.

“Sa lahat ng staff and crew, sa loob ng anim na shooting days, ramdam ko yung pag-aalala. Yes, sorry to say that six shooting days. (crowd laughs). Ramdam ko yung pagmamahal, pag-aalala, pag-gabay nila sakin. Na safe ako, na kahit anung bigat na raramdaman ko, sa lahat ng eksena, never nila kong pinabayaan. Mine-make sure nila maayos akong uuwi kahit sugat sugat ako… Sa mga anak kong very excited kung ano nangyayari sa BALOTA shooting days ko. At yung bunso ko binibilang po yung sugat ko araw araw, tuwing uuwi ako.”

Asked how she felt sharing the award, “Somehow it made it even more special. To share it with someone like Marian Rivera, di pa na pa-process ng utak ko. But I’m so filled with gratitude.”

Juror Jerrold Tarrog explained, “We felt that both actresses deserved it. There was no problem trying to figure out which one. We just felt a tie was most appropriate thing to do.”
