After the initial vaccination rollout in NCR (Metro Manila, March 30-31, 2021) cities around the country have tweaked their own programs in order to improve it. Major cities like Cebu and Antipolo have turned to malls as vaccination sites specifically Robinsons Malls:

Robinsons Galleria Cebu and Robinsons Place Antipolo.

Meanwhile, Tuguegarao went with SM Tuguegarao Downtown and also SM Masinag (for Antipolo).

The decision makes perfect sense given their central locations. Air conditioning can be a critical factor for the vaccines and obviously for the comfort of those inoculated.

Malls also have the experience and manpower of handling large crowds, especially with the need for social distancing. The large, clean well managed spaces are perfect for this purpose.

Manila had an aggressive and efficient vaccination program with a very successful and high turnout. As happy as the Manilans are with it, most of them were held in public schools and or covered basketball courts. Hopefully, having other cities’ free vaccinations in malls that are air conditioned and large spaces would encourage more people to get it.

Robinsons Malls already committed themselves to offer safe and accessible COVID-19 vaccination sites to the public as part of its support with the LGU’s COVID-19 prevention and vaccination efforts. Their recognition of the public’s need to convert their malls into vaccination sites is not just generous but noble.

Antipolo

To date, (April 21, 2021), thousands of front liners, medical health workers, Barangay Health Workers, Barangay Health Emergency Response teams, Barangay Nutrition Scholars, Senior Citizens- and even Antipolo City Mayor Andeng Ynares- were inoculated in Robinsons Place Antipolo.

Cebu

Vice Mayor Mike Rama as Cebu City vaccine czar, appointed by Mayor Edgardo Labella, together with Councilor David Tumulak attended the initial inoculation activity at Robinsons Galleria Cebu. The event is meant to encourage more Cebuanos to get vaccinated. Following these vaccination activities will be a four-day vaccination drive in Robinsons Place GenSan benefiting senior citizens in Barangay Bula, General Santos City.

More Robinsons Malls branches will open up as vaccination sites as it remains dedicated its commitment to fight the battle against COVID-19. Due to its strategic location in key cities, large and clean spaces, and accessibility, Robinsons Malls has become the preferred sites to launch each city’s vaccination drive.

Tuguegarao

The leadership of SMIC (SM Investments Corporation) Vice Chairman Tessie Sy Coson in procuring vaccines and donating them to DOH is now widely known. But SM Malls’ support does not end there.

SM Tuguegarao Downtown became the vaccination site for senior citizens (April 21, 2021).

No less than Tuguegarao City Mayor Jefferson Soriano, were among those who were inoculated.

Hesitancy

So far in Metro Manila, the demand for vaccines, regardless of brand, has out stripped supply. This may be because of the high rates of infection of late. The public demand for vaccinations in other cities around the country greatly varies. There is some indications of vaccination hesitancy (like Cebu). Maybe having the comfortable and airconditioned environs of the malls will encourage more people to get vaccinated.
