The film fest that features the best films for Japan for free is back again in Shang Cineplex, Shangri La Plaza Mall. The Eiga Sai fest runs from July 5-15, 2012 and is organized by the Japan Foundation in cooperation with the Film Development Council of the Phil.

The titles are a mix of action, dramas, comedies and a little bit of anime. Leading them is “Villain” by Japanese-Korean director Sang Il-Lee based on the novel by Shuichi Yoshida who also adapted the mystery / thriller for the screen.

“Villain” has earned a lot of awards from the 34th Japan Academy Prize: Best Actor – Satoshi Tsumabuki, Best Actress – Eri Fukatsu, Best Supporting Actor – Akira Emoto, Best Supporting Actress – Kirin Kiki and Best Music – Joe Hisashi. It also won Best film in the 2010 Kinema Junpo Awards and 65th Mainichi Film Awards.

Japan Foundation Director Shuji Takatori said, “We are very pleased to announce Eiga Sai 2012 as a kick off event for the Phil. Japan Friendship Month in July including contemporary Japanese art exhibition, concerts with traditional Japanese string instruments and guitar. FDCP Exec. Dir. Teodoro Granados in his speech said, “Under the aegis of our Film Cultural Exchange Program, which aims to foster closer cultural cooperation with the international film community the FDCP is indeed proud to take part for the first time in this annual film festival. Since the first staging in 1998, it has brought to Filipino audiences an impressive roster of films from contemporary hits to critically acclaimed classics from the masters of Japanese cinema.”

Granados added, “On be half of our Chairman Briccio G. Santos, I would like to say Domo Arigato, my sincerest thanks to Mr. Shuji Takatori, Director of the Japan Foundation Manila office as well as Kiyoshi Takeuchi and Maki Mizusawa both of the Embassy of Japan for choosing the Film Development Council of the Phil. as it’s partner in the 2012 Eiga Sai, which coincides with the celebration of the Phil.- Japan Friendship month.”

Completing this year’s roster of exciting films to be featured are the “PEAK –The Rescuers”, “Railways”, “Happy Flight”; “Tomorrow’s Joe”, “In His Chart”; “Colorful”, “Abacus And Sword”, “Permanent Nobara”, and “Ninja Kids”.

All films will be shown in 35mm format with English subtitles.
